Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
