The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Lead to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Follows Poor Feedback

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer direction.

The president expressed that the team is now refining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement mirrors a comparable move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire content from the president's memo:

Team—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to consideration and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our audience.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the new Director of the team. Following some time of conversations, Ben starts with us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.

David

Background of the New Leader

The appointee currently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had assignments at other industry leaders.

Game Details and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Initially, 31st Union described the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the official summary states. "Take on the opponents with new abilities, stakes, and tests that evolve every session. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and pray your team can secure victory? The option is in your hands."

The game does not have an official release date or platforms, but fans can anticipate further news as creation progresses.
